Freight Boat

Vessel built to carry products such as wheat pork, wool, corn, oats, fish, salt, whiskey, coal, lumber, clay products and pig iron. Traveled more slowly than the Packet boats. Usually had three cabins, with two cargo holds in between. The middle cabin was used to carry the spare mules and the captain and his family lived in the stern cabin. Cost about $1200 in l835.
