Lock

A rectangular chamber 90 feet long by 15 feet wide of sandstone blocks and wooden floor in which a boat could change elevation. The lock operated like a hydraulic elevator that raised or lowered boats to a new level as the chamber was filled or drained. Locks 10 through 15 all had 10 feet of vertical lift. Lock 16 had 11 feet of lift.
